Review of Phantom of the Paradise (1974) by Mark F — 23 May 2008
Lots of fun. Not quite as amusing as it wants to be, but Paul Williams is pretty hilarious. Jessica Harper is kind of a blank slate as Phoenix, but she clearly does have charisma. It's not exactly satisfying as a narrative film, but DePalma probably didn't care about that, and it exudes enough weird charm so that its cult status is very understandable.
