Review of Phantom of the Paradise (1974) by Michael T — 15 Jun 2008
I love this film despite the fact that it seems to attack the 1970s-era hard rock/heavy metal music that I love! I mean, the soundtrack is by Paul Williams!!!
Williams also stars as the evil Record Producer Swan who sells his soul to the devil, steals the music written by William Finley and ultimately destroys the mans life, and seduces and tries to kill Jessica Harper. What an S.O.B. Finley becomes the "phantom" of Swan's rock club, The Paradise, and tries to stop him.
Gerrit Graham is a hoot as "Beef," who seems to be a spoof of an Alice Cooper-type hard Glam rocker who despite his macho image is actually a fussy, pill-popping and very politically incorrect gay stereotype.
