Review of Phantom of the Paradise (1974) by Ryan V — 28 Feb 2012
This odd Brian De Palma effort attempts to meld The Phantom of the Opera to 1970's glam rock. There are a few differences in the plot's construction, but overall this film does a nice job channeling the spirit of its source material.
There are also some really interesting ideas such as The Phantom's voice and Paul Williams' attempts to imitate Phil Spector. Although a bit decadent, The Phantom of the Paradise is anchored by solid acting and great cinematography.
