Review of Phantom (2013) by Jorge M — 02 Mar 2013
Where did this movie even come from? I never saw a trailer or TV spot, but I love a good Submarine thriller and the cast seemed really good, so I gave it a shot.
Well, the Submarine scenes are well plotted, but nothing very original here. And the biggest issue I had was they are NOT American correct? So why did no one, but one survivor at the very end, speak any Russian the entire film? All the cast was American too. That just rubbed me the wrong way the whole film.
The plot is okay, basically a mad man decides to start another war, but will he be stopped?
So many cliches follow. One soldier gets a little extra time to get married at the beginning and you just know he's toast before they even hit the sea. Nice to see Kip Pardue in a movie...whatever happened to him?
And for the bummer ending, they didn't really give it the emotional touch it needed.
Wasn't awful, but wasn't anything great either.
