Review of Phantasm (1979) by Ashley T — 29 May 2009
One of the most unique and imaginative horror films I've ever seen. Phantasm is one of those movies that becomes an instant classic upon the first viewing. The first 20 minutes is a bit slow, and takes a little while to get going, but once the crazy shit starts happening, everything spirals out of control. Angus Scrimm is amazing as "The Tall Man", becoming one of my favourite horror icons of all time, and I don't even want to mention some of the other elements as it might give the surprise away. I'll just say that in this movie, anything can happen at any point in time without warning. If you're a fan of the horror genre, particularly the hilarious off-the-wall 70s horror genre, this film is for you. Also, make sure you watch the theatrical trailer as well.
Phantasm...is it alive?
Phantasm...is it an illusion?
Phantasm...is it an evil?
