Review of Pete's Dragon (2016) by Justin B — 19 Aug 2016
A completely solid film in its own right, if you are a fan of the original expect there to be little recognizable moments between the two. Almost nothing is as it was in the original, save for Pete and Elliot, but that didn't stop the film from making something of itself on it's own merits.
The movie has a very 80's high-fantasy feel to it and works out great. The effects are wonderful as well and I never for a moment thought Elliot wasn't there (unless he was invisible haha!).
Still, I was hoping for a few key scenes to translate over, like Pete singing "I Love You" to Elliot or the scene where Elliot gets the tarp caught over him, trapping him. But regardless, the film gave me a sense of wonder, heart, and magic and in the end that's what I needed from it!
