Review of Pete's Dragon (2016) by Roger R — 24 Nov 2016
Disney's 2016 reboot of "Pete's Dragon" is a colossally magical and well done family film. The movie really brings back that sense of childhood wonder that's been missing from a lot of family flicks the past few years.
There are a bit too many sections during which a folksy pop song plays over edited scenes spliced together, although the performances are well done and the special effects are top notch.
Robert Redford is heartfelt, and the dragon gets your tear ducts going.
The cinematography is magnificent, with kudos to the director of photography. Memorable images and a sense of magic bring this "Pete's Dragon" to wondrous life for the most part aside from a mid-range screenplay.
Disney hits with this one over all--it's better than you might imagine it to be. Watch it with the family.
