Predictable formula of a boy and his monster. With all these movies the outside world views his friend as a threat so they must kill/capture it while he helps him escape. That being said its a formula that does pull at the heart strings.

Many have done it better like how to train your dragon, ET, Iron Giant just to name a few but if you more of the same go for it.
