Review of Pete's Dragon (2016) by Late R — 18 Aug 2017
With the success of its live action remake of "Cinderella" a new era started at Disney Studios. The Era of the cash grab movie. It was soon followed by a live action remake of "The Jungle Book" which was a huge success.
The next one Disney released before its tremendously successful remake of "Beauty and the Beast" was this live action remake of "Pete's Dragon". This to date is the weakest of the cash grab movies.
The special effects are first rate. The effects of Elliot the dragon are extremely well done. However that's really the only positive thing to say about this movie. The movie as a whole is just as forgettable as the original version of this movie.
Veteran actor and Academy Award winning director Robert Redford looks like he slept under a bridge while he was making the movie which was a major distraction while he was on screen. I guess the hair stylist was sick when he was filming his scenes.
Dallas Bryce-Howard does not do a bad job but she has done much better. The rest of the cast is just mediocre. Karl Urban's performance was just plan ludicrous. I just could not take him seriously.
The main story of the evil, heartless logging company who cares only about money until they finally get a dose of humanity. Nothing we have not seen before. If you must see one of Disney's live action cash grab movie, there are movies better than this remake of "Pete's Dragon".
