Review of Pete's Dragon (2016) by Actingguy 1 — 25 Aug 2016
In a summer where blockbusters seem to come to crash and burn, the remake of Pete's Dragon unassumingly delivers a gentle and whimsical tale about a boy who tragically looses his famil yin a car crash and is rescued and raised by a Dragon who he names Elliot for 5 years until discovered by abled bodied woods person Bryce Dallas Howard and her family.
Predictable yet heart warming all the same, surrounding by a reliable cast including Wes Bentley, Karl Urban and Robert Redford in the sage elder statesmen/narrator role, Pete's Dragon makes sure to hit all the right tear jerking moments and has a decent time playing hide and go seek with the dragon in various segments (partly budget, partly due to the filmmakers sense of mischief), until the money shot near the end of the film where they dumped a lot of money into.
In a brutal summer, in other words, Pete's Dragon is a fresh glass of water to enjoy :).
