Review of Pete's Dragon (2016) by Cliff J — 25 Aug 2016
Pete?s Dragon is another attempt for Disney to remake another classic for a new audience and different generation. By no means was this movie bad or horrible it was just ?okay?. The film struggles with a few different things.
The pacing of the movie goes the speed of a snail and never really does it pick up. Another problem with this movie is that it never really focuses on ?Pete?s Dragon? Elliot. Elliot the dragon is very prominent in the first act of the film and the last 30 minutes but the entirely of the movie is essentially about Pete himself finding acceptance, family, and moving on.
There is not enough Pete and Elliot to make you care about them when they are together or when they are not together. I will say the upside to this film is how beautifully shot it was, the CGI of the dragon, and the acting.
It?s a fine family movie but nothing else besides that.
