Review of Pete's Dragon (2016) by Jay L — 30 Nov 2016
In many ways this is a superior version of the 1977 original.
Some of the same things they've retained such as the bond between Pete and Elliot, choosing whether to believe in the dragon or not, and having the power of love and family to get us through the darkest of places.
Many things are different though; the CGI on the dragon is amazing, the action scenes are pretty to look at, there are no musical numbers, and the pacing is very brisk at the right amount.
This live-action remake is the best combination of family entertainment Disney can concoct.
Bryce Dallas Howard, Robert Redford, Karl Urban, and newcomer Oakes Fegley are dynamite.
Not a great film but worthy enough to put viewers at ease with whatever issues they had with the original movie.
