Review of Pete's Dragon (1977) by P B — 30 Aug 2008
Totally underrated classic that should truly have cult status. Shelley Winters is wickedly great, Helen Reddy carries her songs with vitality and an emotional punch, especially with "CANDLE ON THE WATER", one the best love songs ever.
Each song in this film is unique, catchy, and endearing. This script may not be exceedingly deep, but touches on some important elements and one of the few Disney films to tackle child abuse, aside from the THE RESCUERS.
A delight and a film that every child should grow up seeing. A pure delight.
