Review of Peter Rabbit (2018) by Chinese W — 27 Feb 2018
RT rating has this one exactly right at 58/60. I enjoyed the wholesome just- like-I-remember-it-as-a-kid feel of the book. Young children will enjoy this. At the risk of curmudgeoning, I feel that the birds suddenly rapping and singing popular songs spontaneously took away from it for me.
It had some other elements of that formulaic snarky self-awareness that plagues all modern adapted films. And even (spoiler of a spoiler alert) fell back on the campy stepping on multiple rakes gag. (Deep breath).
Overall, though, my family of Middle age, young adult, and grade schoolers enjoyed it.
