Welcome back, dreamers and streamers! This weekend we were able to watch Peter Pan and Wendy from Disney+. Based on J. M. Barrie’s novel Peter and Wendy and inspired by the 1953 animated classic, Peter Pan and Wendy is the timeless tale of a young girl who, defying her parents’ wishes to attend boarding school, travels with her two younger brothers to the magical Neverland. There, she meets a boy who refuses to grow up, a tiny fairy and an evil pirate captain, and they soon find themselves on a thrilling and dangerous adventure far, far away from their family and the comforts of home.

Disney really knows how to make animated movies come to life. I mean, can you all be any more magical? Enough is enough, but also keep it up. It’s so much so that I’m shocked that this didn’t even have a short run in the theaters. Yes, this story is played out, but this version is just begging to be seen on the big screen. From the landscapes to the flying and even the transformation of Jude Law into Capt. Hook, Disney really just out does themselves. Disney has a blueprint in how you make viewers care about what’s happening on the screen. The storytelling is vivid and deep in this movie. Now, there is one random character in this movie that I’m still confused about. I have no clue why she is in the movie. It was very weird and almost like they said let’s hit some diversity points with this one. But for real, if other people that are adults live on Neverland doesn’t that destory the whole point of the Neverland story? I’m just so confused. Honestly, that’s me stretching to find something wrong with this streaming feature film.

At the end of the day, Peter Pan and Wendy is a good coming of age flick on Disney+. The movie is full of imagination, wonder and nostalgia but infuses current cultural values. The characters have depth that isn’t really existent in other Peter Pan iterations. The movie is fun and deep at the same time. Definitely a family flick that should be seen especially for those with kids who are a bit afraid to grow up.
