Review of Peter Pan (2003) by Bryanbezter — 16 May 2020
The colorful world, properties and costumes are beautiful. The concept is interesting. Jason Isaacs as Captain Hook, Jeremy Sumpter as Peter Pan, and Rachel Hurd-Wood as Wendy Darling did good job.
The characters look like they are acting, it does not feel real. The animation is not good enough. The movie looks like a stage performance with amazing visual effects and the characters only pretend as if they were the characters. It does not feel serious in terms of making viewers believe that the world of Neverland and its myth are real and we are in it. The character motivation is not well-done.
Debatable holes:
1) The pirate crew was childish like the Lost Boys. Their only difference was their size and appearance similar to grown men.
2) Hook and his men could have defeated the boys so easily in all occasions.
3) How could the crocodile be in the cave and around the ship just on time?
4) Did Hook really have happy thoughts?
5) How could Hook and his men not know that pixie dust could make things fly?
6) Tink should have been dead. The narrator said that the poison did not have antidote. Even if there was an antidote, believing that fairies exist would not solve the problem, because disbelief was not the cause of her death.
7) Why would everyone stop fighting when Peter almost died?
8) How could Hook easily manipulate Peter's feelings? How could Peter easily manipulate Hook's feelings?
9) The weather of Neverland was not synchronized with Peter's feelings, only in moments when the plot must take place.
10) Why did Aunt Millicent let the lost boys enter the house?
11) How could Peter Pan have super scream?
12) How could the arrow stick to the necklace?
13) All things where Tink flew on should float right away.
14) How could Tiger Lily and Hook find Wendy's brothers at the same time?
15) How could Hook and his men get out of the cave and find Peter and Wendy dancing?
16) What was the medicine that Wendy made? It was just a glass of water. Even if it was a medicine, how could she know that it was the right medicine and how to make it?
17) Hook could have easily killed Peter when he was trying to poison him.
18) How could everyone be able to hear Peter's thoughts that fairies are real, even adults?
19) How could the lost boys fight with sword? How could Wendy and her brothers fight with swords?
20) Peter nor the boys did not have any chance at all to fight and win over Hook or any adults.
21) Why did the pirate crew suddenly disappear from the ship after Hook died?
22) Why did Hook let Wendy give Peter something?
Message from the movie:
The movie tells about a child's struggle to leave his/her childish life, as faced by Peter and Wendy. Hook and Wendy's dad are personification of miserable adult life. I think that the key takeaway of the movie is to enjoy our lives, be happy and grateful, as children or adults. Happiness is what we believe in.
