Review of Pet Sematary (1989) by Ivan D — 03 Oct 2009
I have watched this a long, long time ago and remember not liking it, but after re-watching it recently, I thought "Pet Sematary" is a very effective horror film. It does not imply lots of blood and gore, but instead, the premises of the film itself added to the creepy nature of the story, without heavily relying on the violent content.
And apart from it being a horror picture, "Pet Sematary" is an essay about death, and how not to alter it, or else, death will alter you for the worst. Stephen King in a cameo as a priest was surprising and fun enough to get out of the darkness of the film for a while.
