Review of Pet Sematary (1989) by Brinn O — 09 Nov 2013
Stephen King doesn't have the faintest clue what makes a good movie. He wrote the screenplay for this adaptation of his novel, and it's dull and predictable. Anybody who knows "The Monkey's Paw" (which is essentially everybody), knows where this one is going long before it gets there.
You just have to trudge through it. The cast is uniformly awful. Fred Gwynne sports one of the worst accents I have ever heard. Dale Midkoff is wooden and dull. Rather than feel any sympathy for him, you can't help but focus on what consistently idiotic decisions his character makes.
I have never been fond of the dimwitted song the Ramones wrote for this movie and it's made even worse by the fact that it's awkward inclusion over the end credits stomps all over the mood of the last scene.
About the best that I can say is that this is far from the worst Stephen King adaptation out there.
