Review of Pet Sematary (1989) by David L — 21 Sep 2012
Nothing particularly wrong with this film, but nothing overly great about it either! Having known zilch about this prior to watching it, I had made the somewhat obvious assumption that a film entitled 'pet semetary' may have something to do with Pets, and may have even thrown in a Cemetary for good measure.
However, what we got was a family, who one by one started falling victim to the ominous surroundings to where they have just moved, the key to which included a busy highway that has witnessed many accidents via high speed truckers, plus the inevitable pet cemetary built on an ancient burial ground to store the bodies of the subsequent roadkill.
By using animals and children as the centrepieces for the evil, it added that element of horror originality as they turned on their parents. However, the story gradually came a little bit too supernatural and also slightly repetitive as it reached it's conclusion.
It was also left uncertain what actually happened to the remaining members of the family as a result of the tragic consequences! Needless to say, it's not one of Stephen Kings best, but the sequel would be worth a butchers nevertheless!
