Review of Pet Sematary (1989) by Roxsy T — 02 Nov 2009
Stephen King's Pet Sematary stars Dale Midkiff and Denise Crosby (who I know from Star Trek TNG), featuring the appearance of Fred Gwynne who most of you will know as Herman Munster from the Tv Show The Munsters.
Pet Sematary is a chilling tale about a family moving into a gorgeous new house by a busy trucker highway where their hospitable but strangely odd neighbor (Fred Gwynne) tries to make the family feel right at home.
When their cat "Church" dies along the highway Gwynne's character alerts the Dr. Creed (Midkiff) of the family about a particular place he can bury the cat and after they do so the cat comes back to life and returns home.
Church is now highly irritable and evil! Creed is also haunted by the ghost of one of his passed patients who died while also this ghost shares some sort of psychic connection with Creed's wife and little girl.
I won't give the rest of the movie away but I will say Creed should have took Church's transformation as a warning of what will happen when he buries the dead in the Pet Sematary... lucky for us he doesn't! This is definately one of my favorite Stephen King flicks.
The story is well-told as well as disturbing. What can I describe as disturbing without giving it away? I'll just say a truck and Gage. Almost ever scene from that point on has had a permanent place in my memory as something from a film that really bothered me!
