Review of Personal Shopper (2016) by Drew M — 04 Apr 2017
4 Stars. This is one of those films that's impossible for one to turn away from. The lead performance by Kristen Stewart is gripping as all hell and Olivier, the director, seems to be in top form. The screenplay and tone feels fresh and inventive; One of the things I liked most about the film is also it's biggest weakness, the muddled storyline to an otherwise another very perceptive character study.
It wants to be and say way too many things with this film that it doesn't work completely as a whole, but I respect the hell out of it. Kristen Stewart has seriously never been better, though. Seriously incredible performance here.
You literally wont be able to take your eyes off of her in this. There's a certain confidence in Assayas's directing and writing that I'm always intrigued by everything that is on the screen even if it's not much.
Easily, my new favorite duo.
