Review of Personal Effects (2009) by Brendan A — 17 Jun 2010
Surprisingly engrossing drama in which Ashton Kutcher plays Walter, a wrestler who's life is torn apart after his sister is murdered. While attending a grief counselling session he meets mega milf Linda (Michelle Pfieffer) who's husband was murdered. Friendship and a budding romance soon blossomn between the pair and Walter sets about forming a special bond with her deaf son Clay, the target of bullies whom he teaches how to box.
Thanks to all round great performances and a strong script this works really well. I'm not really a romance fan and was pleasantly surprised this wasn't yet another retread of Pfieffer's "Up Close And Personal" and "One Fine Day". This movie easily surpasses both of those, and is a movie women and men alike should enjoy.
