Review of Persona (1966) by Yancy P — 10 Jul 2011
Ok. This isn't going to be a typical review; more of a discussion.
I think what Bergman was trying to express through 'Persona' is subjective.
It's the essence of surrealism, if you ask me. So, what... is Persona, as it says in the movie, 'nothing', just a bunch of repressed thoughts and images from Bergman's head? I don't think so. Not really...
I mean, how can one really break down and express the human psyche... one's persona?
Bergman let's it run wild, and I think it's brilliant. It's as if you just woke up from some wild dream, you don't entirely understand it, and you can't decide whether it was complete nonsense, or something profound, but either way, you're just in awe. That's how I can best describe 'Persona.'.
