Review of Persona (1966) by Marilena O — 10 Mar 2012
I hadn't gotten to watch this Bergman masterpiece that has been influential on any movie dealing with personality transference and self identity, clearly seen in later films like Altman's '3 Women', Lynch's 'Mulholland Drive' and Von Trier's 'Melancholia'.
One of the most beautifully photographed B&W films of all time by master cinematographer Sven Nykvist, this film is poetic, intriguing and thought provoking. A second watch with commentary by Bergman biographer Marc Gervais is highly recommended to fully appreciate the complexities of this movie.
