Review of Persona (1966) by Chris . — 04 Jun 2009
I have been watching a lot of Bergman films lately and it astonishes me the depth and breadth of this directors psychology and insight. This is one of his most avante garde existentialist movies. Weird sounds and Weird cuts of celluloid pass the screen.
I wonder if he had done LSD the film is so wild. I am surprised the censors let the erect penis stay in the movie at 36 seconds. There are also many many beautiful images and symbols in this film. It is a complex and mysterious film.
As I have said before he is the only director to delve into the human psyche like done in this movie. There is the two women the psychological dialogue and the beauty of their surroundings and their madness.
from wiki Bergman held this film to be one of his most important; in his book Images, he writes: "Today I feel that in Persona â?? and later in Cries and Whispers â?? I had gone as far as I could go.
And that in these two instances when working in total freedom, I touched wordless secrets that only the cinema can discover." highest rating 5 stars certainly one of the greatest films of the 20th century I had a much longer review but somehow half of it went missing.
