Review of Persona (1966) by Seth C — 10 Jul 2012
I watched Persona for the first time alone, in the dark, in the corner of my room. My eyes never left the screen. I was terrified, titilated, intellectually stimulated, constantly surprised and utterly intoxicated by it.
It's cinematic poetry. Every shot is wrung out like a wet towel and dripping with all kinds of interwoven elements; symbolism, psychology, sensuality, mystery, cruelty and they're all pieced together flawlessly in this consummate piece of Art.
Even without trying to dissect the depths of its imagery and the 2 women, just taking it in helps you better understand why Film can and should be an Art form first and business second. Persona shows what only Film can do.
So yeah, I liked it.
