Review of Persona (1966) by William B — 13 Mar 2011
I don no how This movie made me impulsed to make a review..this is an experience of lifetime ! Probably this is the best direction and camera-light work I have seen in a movie so far . This black and white classic is one of the most original and genuine psychological masterpiece of all time, thats for sure !
Now I come back to the point of this movie. The most amazing thing of this movie is that you can explain and see from two very different point of view ! both the lead characters are so complicated and strong that you can't say what's the lead and whats the supporting character ! From the very first appearance of this movie you will see some bizarre and symbolic scenes , traditional from Bergman. After that, the first appearance of the actress will give you many questions of what you will get the answers at the last of movie, in the meanwhile the suspense arise gradually that what happened to her for this kinda unlikely condition ?? why did she made herself mute and detached from the outsider world ??she certainly has her own very reason and U can do nothing but only respect her from that. But would it be pleasant or praiseworthy for every other person ?? There comes the second point of view from the second character !
She doesn't know many things outside her life, she is only a nurse. But does that mean she can't have her own very feelings about all things, own point of of view, above all her own ''persona "? She feels like 'The actress' is her idle, though she doesn't wanna talk but that can't her aloft from expressing her very personal feelings only to her what she can't tell everyone. Ultimately she became very close to her, but she only saw the surface of the mentality and everything that that belonged to her, but then came thee twist ! When she finally got to know what she really is, she can't idolize her any more ! All the time she wanted to imitate her, but when she finally got some success in this matter, she can't like her anymore! What will happen now?? What about her own "Persona" ? what she will do now ?
Ingmar Bergman is a real genius. He pulled every strings so carefully and subtly that you will be stunned and mesmerized how he could do it !I wish I could give it more than 10 ! Feel like seeing it again and again!
