Review of Persepolis (2007) by Steve P — 23 Oct 2009
This is a very interesting movie. French, mostly black and white, animated autobiography of a young 9 yo girl who is growing up during the Islamic Revolution. Documents her struggle with Islamic fundamentalism, sent to Austria by her parents to escape the danger of war, her struggle with Western living/ideology, return to Iran, and then later finds she cannot live there either.
A wonderful exploration of personal identity, fundamentalism, freedom, and resistance. Check it out!
