Review of Persepolis (2007) by Pavel S — 23 Feb 2010
Very preachy. I'm getting a bit sick of Middle Eastern history lessons hidden behind a thin veneer of "story." The entire thing was just boring and tried to say and do way too much without ever trying to devote the same amount of attention to the lead herself. Because of this, I could never really care for her. I also can only see the same ol' "I then moved here, met this person, that person, got fucked over by everyone, and left :( " sequence so many times in a row without starting to distrust the protagonist.
It ends well and the subject matter is important and educational, but the narrative is underwhelming to say the least.
