Review of Persepolis (2007) by Michael M — 27 Feb 2010
I've read both of the books and the problem is that the first book is infinitely superior to the second one, as well as quite different in style, and the movie tries to incorporate both books. As such, the first half is great, but the second half drags and meanders. Another issue arises in that key plot elements are either brushed over quickly, or not even mentioned.
I really liked the look of the film, how they both translated and enhanced the appearance of the graphic novels, but the narrative doesn't work as well as it did in the books.
The first half is 4 stars, the second half is 2 stars, so I'm rounding that out to 3 stars for the whole experience.
