Review of Persepolis (2007) by Dave C — 04 Nov 2010
Persepolis is visually arresting and stylistically rich, but ultimately un-engaging and, for me, begged the question: Why was this made into a movie?
It's an interesting story with some amusing moments, I'll give 'em that. I just don't think it was suited for the screen. I appreciate the coming of age tale that it spins, but our story ends very abruptly without any wisdom gained or any real arc for our character. This is literally just a re-telling of this woman's admittedly interesting life.
It's worth seeing, but it didn't do much for me. I imagine the book is way better and would probably be a much better way of experiencing her tale.
