Review of Persepolis (2007) by Jess L — 06 Feb 2013
This is a brilliant film; the story is told in a rather humorous way given the serious nature of the plot. The young Marjane is delightful; she is brought to life so wonderfully through the exquisite animation.
The animation itself blew me away; simple black and white line drawings interspersed with colour as adult Marjane remembers back to her childhood. The detail within the animation is breathtaking and at times I was torn between taking in all of the detail and trying to keep up with the subtitles.
This is definitely a stand out film for the year for me so far; I have never seen anything like it and I enjoyed it so much more than I expected to.
