Review of Persepolis (2007) by Michael A — 09 Dec 2009
The animation is beautiful in its simplicity, and the story gives a great insight of Iranian life during the revolution (and few flashback about Shah's regime), Iraq-Iran war, until the 1990s era, how Marjane and her family struggle to get one thing in their beloved country, freedom.
But it's not just a story about Iran, it's also a story about Marjane herself, how she transforms from kid, to teenage and living her tough life in Europe (here we're being shown that she can survive war and its atrocities, but she can't stand how hard her love life was), moving from one place to another, and finally back to Iran, get married but then divorced.
The last scene in the airport's really heart-wrenching (yes, it's not so emotional for some, but it got me even that I didn't cry, but I felt exactly how hard it was).
