Review of Persepolis (2007) by Johnny C — 02 Feb 2010
This should be required viewing for everyone. Unique and beautiful animation make this coming-of-age story amidst the Islamic Revolution in Iran an engrossing and unforgettable film. The story of young Marjane growing up in Iran and Europe while struggling with cultural identity is done with humor, wit, and creativity mixed with hardship and tragedy. It's extremely effective and I can't think of another film quite like it.
This is a masterpiece as far as I'm concerned. An absolute gem that shouldn't be missed.
