Review of Persepolis (2007) by Isabelle P — 23 Aug 2010
Perhaps even better than the book. Sharp, neatly stylized and almost expressionistic at times (a scene at one dramatic point gradually morphs into Edvard Munch's "Scream", an effect impossible to achieve on the page).
Marjane's personal odyssey set during Iran's tumultuous revolutionary and brutal post-revolutionary decades delivers forward-looking insight, and lends a modern voice to a country which the West reduces to the fundamentalist face the heroine so boldly decries and defies.
