Review of Perfume: The Story of a Murderer (2006) by Bingoxx S — 21 Mar 2010
Perfume is a story about a Frenchman with an amazing sense of smell.
"I have the best nose in Paris" he declares.
He wants to capture scent but has scant regard for human life and so ends up murdering 14 women to capture the 12 essences of a scent plus the mystical 13th element that the Egyptians thought magical blah blah blah.
Frankly I didnt really enjoy this film. When film makers rely on 'sneaking up on someone' too much it pisses me off. Do you know how difficult it is to sneak up on someone without being noticed. While the protagonist may have the best nose in Paris I doubt he was the best sneaker upper as well.
The acting in itself was good, the pictures in the film were well shot (good cinematography) and the dresswork etc all good too. Here's where I got annoyed. TOO DAMN LONG. 147 minutes? Are you fucking kidding me. I was done after 75 minutes, half way through. Jesus Christ I am surprised I made I to the end. Which in itself was a bag of shite. He releases his perfume and everyone makes love - BULL SHIT. then he goes back to where he was born and disappear after pouring it himself. What a pile of crap. I don't think this kind of stuff can be shown without annoying people like me who believe that there is too much mythical nonsense in films these days.
In short. Too long and too disbelievable.
