Review of Perfume: The Story of a Murderer (2006) by Chad S — 13 Oct 2010
I was very impressed when I watched this movie. I think I felt, at the time, that this was the best movie I had ever seen. I have brought the movie up numerous times, but few have actually seen it. It saddens me to think that this movie was skipped by the masses, but I was not surprised.
We are in a world of apathy; disconnected and insensative to the humans around us. It doesn't shock me at all that the critics put down the movie. I am not surprised that others are afraid to allow themselves to dive into the mind of Ben's character.
It seems that they all ignored the child-like innocense he carried. He wasn't taught morals in the story, so why would you even apply that to the actions of his obsession? I haven't read the book, and I don't plan to; and don't care.
I thought this movie was powerful. I will use this film as a measure from now on. Anyone who saw this movie and didn't appreciate it can take a walk off a short pier.
