Review of Perfume: The Story of a Murderer (2006) by Simeon M — 06 Aug 2015
Visually breathtaking, unrelentingly creepy, and a beautiful design makes Perfume a terrific watch... right up until the bizarre last 30 minutes. I know that they were trying to stay faithful to the book, but they could have done a much better job of setting up the ending. The film established smell as important, but it should have at least *hinted* at the fact that smell can literally control people.
Most of the movie = 4/5 stars.
The last 30 minutes = 1/5 stars.
Compromise: 3/5 stars as a compromise.
