Review of Performance. (1970) by Bob S — 20 Jul 2007
Can't get enough of this film. British gangland/celebrity culture explored through outstanding acting, Nic Roeg's astonishing camerawork and Cammell's warped mind. Gangland antihero meets Gothic prince of darkness.
Virgins beware. Favourite moment is when Chas arrives at 84 Powys Square and on the doorstep we see a pint of milk, some mushrooms and a Mars bar. And Marianne Faithful said that never happened. Cammell went on to make some of cinema's most messed up movies while Roeg (Don't look now, The Man Who Fell to Earth) has consistantly failed to be considered one of Britain's finest directors.
There is of course no justice. This film will get under your skin.
