Review of Performance (1970) by Jonathan B — 27 May 2008
Interesting time capsule of late 60s early 70s experimental filmmaking... The look and feel of the film has to be attributed to Roeg's signature way of cross cutting... It is at first jarring but after awhile you begin to pick up different layers of meaning that you might not have gotten had the film just been cut in a standard way...
James Fox is great as the tough gangster, and Mick Jagger has a weird magnetism in a mythic kind of part...
