Reminds me of reading PD James's Children Of Men. The same bleak semi-intellectual hopelessness runs through both. Also left wondering about the scene at the very start of Day Of The Triffids where the blind couple walk out of a third-floor window, as a potential epilogue to this film.

This is a film whose premise preys on the basic fear of ageing which is present in most of us. The most contrived parts were the crazy transition fits, which seem designed to give the actors a chance to scream, cry, and generally go mental in what was otherwise a pretty gentle apocalyptic love story.

Overall it was a pleasant surprise, but happy I didn't go to see it at the cinema with my parents like Burn After Reading - that was a mistake.
