Review of Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters (2013) by Thomas J — 27 Jan 2014
In order to gain anything from this film I felt that I should have watched the last instalment more recently as I felt thrown into a world of confusion. That being said the character development is mildly laughable and by the middle to end of the film it becomes all too self indulgent that the situations presented are born out of sheer what is the weirdest situation we can produce with CGI.
I stuck with the film through the countless ''look its a rainbow coloured unicorn swimming in the sea aren't you coming?'' You can't help but say to yourself if the fate of the world is in these hands then we are doomed anyway so what is the point.
The film gets annoying by the middle but by this point the investment has already been made by the viewer. All in all very disappointed by a self indulgent production of a fairy tale/good VS evil world of anything goes and everything can happen all mashed up together.
Alas the last straw was the hug at the near end when clearly every second counts. I will not say anymore as to avoid any spoiler alert but you will know it when it happens. We are more intelligent that to accept films this pretentious.
