Although PJSOM digressed a lot from the book, I thought it had a great plot separate from the novel. If it wasn't based on a book series, I'm sure many more people would enjoy it because it has a strong plot on its on.
But I'm a hard core fan of Percy Jackson and Logan Lerman, so I may be a little biased. xD.
