Review of Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief (2010) by Victor D — 14 Sep 2013
7 out of 10 toes.
A good try on cashing in on the whole young adult genre spawning from the harry potters to the twilights. Fell short though on alot of areas. One of the only reasons why it's a 7 and not a 5/6 is because I happen to like mythology and I support the older actors. Story and the special effects would have benefited greatly from the acting. Maybe if a sequel was to be made and a different direction will be taken given the chance, Percy Jackson has a future.
Side note: I love how this shows the ongoing doubling always happening in the entertainment industry. There are always two of alot of things that come out. How about this? Percy Jackson (descendant of Poseidon, and Perseus [son of Poseidon]) in this movie, and within two months, Clash of the Titans and it's titular hero, Perseus, is coming out. Also, modern day mix of older genres, this movie, and also the upcoming The Sorcerer's Apprentice. Just something to think about because I believe the industry does it on purpose which isn't a bad idea business-wise.
