Review of Pépé le Moko (1937) by Kivernitis I — 17 Mar 2008
Magnificent deconstruction of The Casbah ("There's not one Casbah, but hundreds, thousands"). Portrays a magical city of divisions and connections. Some gerat unconventional playing with form such as the two virtually unheard sidekicks who shadow Pepe almost everywhere.
Clearly a major influence on Casablanca.
