Review of People Like Us (2012) by Alex V — 14 Sep 2012

Wow! Who would have thought a melodramatic movie would be so damn good. Yes this movie People like Us is a movie I kind of enjoyed and I don't know why, I could maybe call it a guilty pleasure. I do usually hate movies like this, you know movies filled with crappy melodrama, bad script writing and cliched storytelling, but this movie shocked me because from the previous I thought this movie would be all those things, but now after watching it, I think I was wrong.

Yes this movie does have melodrama in it, but it works, it works for the story and it works for the characters. Now as for the script writing I found there was nothing wrong with the script, I think Alex Kurtzman wrote a very clever script which has lots of emotion and great character development.

His direction was also very well done, he filmed the movie just right and he gives it a good dark tone at times which I kind of liked. Now for the story it is a little cliched which will probably bother a lot of people and I really thought it would bother me because I hate cliched story's, but for some reason it didn't bother me, I guess it was because of the clever script and the solid acting performances I just didn't care of the cliched story.

I think the acting is what really made this movie though, like Chris Pine was terrific in this film, he plays his character really well and he makes his character so unlikable in the beginning, but in the end you can't help but route for the guy.

Elizabeth Banks was also really good, which is nice because I know she can act and some people think she can't because some of the movies she's played in recently, but seriously watch this movie and you will see she's a pretty good actress.

Now as for the co-stars, Michelle Pfeiffer plays the main characters mother and she's great in it and Olivia Wilde plays the girlfriend and surprisingly she's not half bad either and I really don't like Olivia Wilde but in this movie she did a half decent job.

So yeah I really liked this movie, I think it was well put together and I think the entire cast in the movie did great. I could call this movie a guilty pleasure because I know some people will think this movie is just a typical melodrama and hey they could be right and if they are I guess this movie is a guilty pleasure.
