Review of People Like Us (2012) by Heather S — 22 Oct 2012
This is one of those movies that kind of flew under the radar. Not because it was bad, or that it didn't feature likable leads, but that it just wasn't very accessibly story-wise. It's actually a decent story, with nice performances from Chris Pine (Unstoppable), Elizabeth Banks (Pitch Perfect), Michelle Pfeiffer (Dark Shadows), and Olivia Wilde (In Time).
Michael Hall D'Addario ("John Adams") wasn't a bad actor, but he just plays one of those kids you want to slap. This wasn't a bad first effort from writer-turned-director Alex Kurtzman (Cowboys & Aliens), though, he kind of wasted the talents of Jon Favreau (Iron Man 2) and Mark Duplass ("The League"), giving them only bit parts.
Still, for a writer who's done primarily sci-fi, this wasn't a bad film that he wrote with collaborator Robert Orci (Cowboys & Aliens). Not the greatest film out there and it plays out about the way you might expect, but there are worse things you could do with 110 minutes.
