Review of Penguins of Madagascar (2014) by Orlando O — 15 Apr 2015
Penguins of Madagascar bring back the characters that were most enjoyable in the Madagascar movies into having their own spin off movie. The four Penguins that go through all kinds of situations in an endless entertaining way. Sadly, their own spin off movie has trouble in being fun like how they were in the Madagascar movies. Yes, kids will enjoy the movie; it is brainless, funny and charming with the penguins of Skipper, Kowalski, Rico, and Private. Skipper is the leader; Kwolski is the strategist, and Rico the arsenal. Then, there is Private who is the odd penguin in the group and does get his own character arc of finding himself useful in the movies plot.
The movie is jam packed with crazy frenetic action that kids will find entertaining. Then, there is a new character that are introduced like a gray wolf that works for his agency organization known as the North wind. His team Short Fuse is a seal that works with explosives and Eva a snow owl. The villain is Dave, an octopus who disguises himself as a human and by far the most annoying character in the movie.
Penguins of Madagascar are one of those movies that showed all the funny parts through the movie trailers, and the movie overall cannot sustain the humor with the characters itself. The movie does its job in aiming for a specific audience as a family movie, but it was quite disappointing. Especially, the movie that takes the best characters from Madagascar and putting them into a dull colorful spinoff.
