Life for farm workers in Denmark seen through the eyes of a boy that emigrates to Denmark with his father in the late 1800´s.
The story in this film is based on book 1 out of 4. It paints a less than flattering picture of the people owning the farms. Very graphic in some parts, but there is no need to sugar coat how things were.
Some might say that the two and a half hours is too long and the ending is abrupt. It is part of a series of 4 books and there was really no other way of ending it.
