Review of Pelle the Conqueror (1987) by Private U — 31 Dec 2007
An epic of smaller portions, this is the simple and heartbreaking tale of a father and son relocating to Denmark to find work at a farm. The scene with Pelle running across the ice from the taunting boys is one of the most beautiful scenes in history.
It isn't as good as The Tree of Wooden Clogs (Palm D'Or 1978), but VanSydow's acting is phenomenal. A must see.
